Grabbing Life by the Bowls: Why Acai is our Favorite Go-To Snack

By Anna Finch

Grabbing Life by the Bowls: Why Acai is our Favorite Go-To Snack

USC Cabana Anna Campus Rep Camille fills us in on her favorite snack to grab on the go at school!

The Amazebowls food truck located on the edge of University of Southern California’s campus is far from your average campus cruising food trunk. Instead of serving junky foods that'll kill your energy, they offer some of the best healthy treats around - Acai bowls!

Acai bowls are smoothie bowls made from a base of Acai berry, a dark purple berry found in Brazil, and then topped with anything from freshly sliced fruit and granola to chopped nuts and honey. These are the absolute best on a hot Southern California afternoon! They give you a natural boost to help you through the day, are full of antioxidants, and help control your cholesterol levels (not that I'm old enough to worry about that yet, buuuuuuut it never hurts).

Acai bowls aren't just vitamin-packed, they also taste  awesome (and looks SO good on your Instagram)! With fun flavors, like mint or dragon fruit, there’s always something new to try. It’s the perfect snack to pick up when you’re heading home, en route to class, or hitting the pool for a dip in your Cabana Anna bikini ;)

Other local spots we love:

Rawberri, West Hollywood

Nektar Juice Bar, Multiple Los Angeles Locations

Juice Crafters, Multiple Los Angeles Locations

Perfect Beach Picnic :: French Riviera

By Anna Finch

Perfect Beach Picnic :: French Riviera

Bohemian beach picnic? Don't mind if we do!

With California temperatures on the rise, it's time to start planning for the sunny days ahead...and there's no better way to welcome in the warm weather than with a day at the beach and a lazy picnic (and lots of rosé).

Our first themed picnic idea in this series is a French Riviera inspired soireé featuring delicious finger foods and Parisian hor d'oeuvres! Time intensive? A bit. Worth it? Completely. Wow factor? Off the charts.

Wear:

Pack:

  • Large round towel to serve as a picnic blanket
  • Picnic basket that doubles as a cooler
  • Cups and napkins (besides a serving spoon or two, don't bother with silverware)
  • Beachy umbrella or canopy
  • A few bottles of rosé

 Prepare:

Finish it all off with a couple bottles of sparkling mineral water and DO NOT FORGET a trash bag! Keep the beach beautiful.

Spice Up Your LA Summer! Cabana Anna’s Guide to a Great Summer

By Anna Finch

It’s that time of year again: summer. The time of year that we all make plans with our friends to go on crazy trips, spend every day at the beach, or just get out of the house to do fun things. But let’s be real, it can be easy to fall into a ‘schedule’ consisting of binge watching Netflix and eating everything in the fridge. Without a game plan, there’s a good chance the majority of summer could be spent lying in bed or on the couch. Don’t worry, we’re the same way too. This summer, let’s change that! Here are some of our favorite fun things to do this summer in Southern California.
Looking to do something adventurous? Get a couple friends together, lace up your hiking shoes, pack your favorite bathing suits (Cabana Anna, of course), and head out to Malibu Creek State Park. If you’re adventurous and unafraid of heights, then this is the perfect thing to do on a hot summer day! Only a short hike on the trail will lead you to a C-shaped gorge that’s MADE for cliff jumping. A little bit of rock climbing is involved in order to get up high enough to jump. Once you climb up on the rocks, take a deep breath, and take the plunge! Make sure to have a friend take a picture for Instagram or even a video (just to prove that you did it).
Want to get the most out of your beach day? Plan a trip to Laguna and swing by 1000 Steps Beach. Navigate your way to the beach while drinking in that incredible view. Once you get to the beach, you can lay out to tan, go surfing, play volleyball, or explore. If you go during low tide, you can climb the rocks to get to the natural pools. It’s a trek to get to the beach and pools, but definitely worth every minute to see the waves crashing on the rocks and the clear, blue water! Then, after spending time at the beach, you’ll get a great leg workout climbing up those steps ;) Your summer bod will look better than ever!
If you’re not doing anything between July 25 and August 2, you’re in luck. The U.S. Surf Open is held in Huntington Beach each year and it’s sure to be a blast! This event is the largest surf competition in the world and tons of Southern Californians attend each year. If you’re not into surfing, there are other events going on in the area simultaneously. The U.S. Surf Open has live music, other competitions, fashion shows, and much more. It is one of the biggest events of the year in Southern California and definitely something that you shouldn’t miss. Maybe you’ll even find some hot surfer boys to hang out with!

Ok, a lot of these activities take some pre-planning. If you’re looking for something to do last minute with a couple of friends there are so many other excellent options – LA is always on the go and many of the best things are cheap or free. You can go paddle boarding in Marina del Rey, the perfect way to get some sun on the water while exploring. Another great activity is biking or rollerblading in Manhattan Beach. There’s a bike trail that takes you right along the beach. Feeling a little bit more adventurous? Go parasailing in Marina del Rey. You’ll get to see all of Los Angeles from above and maybe even get dipped in the water!
Make this summer in LA one for the books J check back here weekly for updates and even more fun activities!
XOXO,
Laura

Swim Collective

By Anna Finch

Had a BLAST taking over Swim Collective! One of the largest swimwear trades hows in the United States, Swim Collective brings all major swimwear and activewear brands and buyers together for a two day convention, where Spring of that year designs are revealed and buyers make their picks. Too much fun with our girl Jessa (model on the left) and Emily Palos (model on the right). Didnt hurt that it was held at the beautiful St Regis in Monarch Beach - best bathrobes around, hands down!

Trick or Treat!

By Anna Finch

We LOVE Halloween! Halloween brings back amazing memories of growing up: chilly nights, weeks of costume planning, the smell of pumpkin pulp and subsequent toasting pumpkin seeds, winking jack-o-lanterns on the front step, neighborhood explorations with friends and flashlights, and a painstaking candy count at the end of the night.

One thing remains the same: we still love to hoard candy. Just kidding, that’s not what this post is about. The one thing that’s the same about the Halloween from our childhoods is that we STILL won’t be caught dead in a costume that comes out of a bag! This year, we got especially creative and wanted to share our favorite costume ideas that can be DIYed with a Cabana Anna bikini plus props.

1. Sailor: pair our Manhattan Bandeau with a white button down, sailor cap, and nautical navy high-waisted shorts.

2. Hula Dancer: Aloha! Get this look with our Mandalay Halter, a flower crown, grass skirt, and greenery. We paired our grass skirt with a green skirt underneath for more coverage, but green spandex is also a good call!

3. Hippy: For a costume that's sure to turn heads, choose our Catalina Bandeau, Sunsetters heart-shaped sunglasses, head scarf, platform heels, psychedelic printed pants, and woven bag.

What are you being for Halloween, Cabana babes? Got any great ideas for DIY costumes using a Cabana Anna bikini? Share your ideas with us via Instagram (@caswim) or in the comments below for a special 15% off Halloween discount!

xoxo,

Cabana Anna Swimwear
